Bringing Events to Life with VR
We used virtual reality to build excitement for one of the largest construction and agriculture expos in the world.
A virtual reality app provides 360-degree views.
CONEXPO/CON-AGG takes place every three years and attracts 130,000 attendees. In order to help the Association of Equipment Manufacturers engage a larger, multigenerational audience for the expo, we created an app with a virtual tour of the event's 2.5 million square feet of conference and exhibit space. The app allowed prospective attendees to experience each conference hall ahead of time and featured teasers of special attractions.
We sent out customized Google cardboard viewers to thousands of the conference’s key attendees to build anticipation and buy-in. Attendees had the option of using the VR viewer for a virtual reality experience or their smartphones for a handheld 360-degree experience.
Continuing the conversation.
After the event, we pivoted the app to a post-show content delivery platform so that AEM can continue to deliver new content and keep the audience engaged until the next event.
AEM's use of virtual reality at CONEXPO/CON-AGG 2017 was recognized by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) as an Art of the Show winner for Most Innovative Use of Technology.
